The Catholic Asia Bibi was sentenced to death in her homeland of Pakistan for alleged blasphemy as the first woman in history. She spent nearly eight years on death row.
On October 31, 2018, Asia Noreen (Bibi) was acquitted by the Supreme Court of Pakistan. As a result, protest groups formed of radical Islamists who demand that Asia Bibi be finally sentenced to death. The Islamists are putting so much pressure on the government that it wants to re-examine the verdict. Until then, Asia Bibi should not leave the country.
We demand with this petition that Germany grant Asia Bibi and her family asylum. It can not be that a woman should be punished for death because of her religion. Even the CDU politician Michael Brand calls Asia Bibi to Germany to get and give their protection. Please Mr. Seehofer, join us and bring Asia Bibi to Germany!
My name is Hibba Kauser, I’m 19 years old and graduated from high school this year. I have been campaigning for compassion, solidarity and justice in the past because I think it’s important not just to watch something unfair happen, but to get involved and help. The case of Asia Bibi is also very close to me personally, as my parents are from Pakistan and I know the country of my parents quite well. I know that human rights violations are committed there on a daily basis. I also know that women’s rights are ignored or, in the worst case, do not even exist.
I want human rights to be respected everywhere. “All men are born free and equal to dignity and rights,” says Article 1 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. I call on the international community to show solidarity with a courageous woman who, like everyone else, has a right to think and speak out. Please sign my petition!
